The central government has launched a new Aadhaar mobile application aimed at enhancing digital identity verification across India. Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw disclosed the development via his official X account.
The new app integrates real-time face recognition and QR code scanning, making physical Aadhaar cards redundant during identity verification. Individuals can now authenticate their identity through smartphones without sharing photocopies.
Key Functional Features:
- Facial recognition replaces traditional fingerprint or iris-based verification.
- QR code scanning enables immediate identity authentication, similar to digital payment systems.
- The app facilitates digital Aadhaar validation in hotels, retail establishments, and during travel.
- No personal data is shared without user consent.
- Users can restrict access to only essential portions of Aadhaar information.
With this release, Aadhaar authentication becomes entirely digital. All identity checks involving Aadhaar can now be completed via smartphone, reducing risks associated with physical data leaks and tampering.
The mobile platform employs security protocols to prevent editing, duplication, or unauthorized modifications of Aadhaar details.
Currently in Beta testing, the app will become publicly available following successful trials. Once released, it will be accessible on Google Play Store and Apple App Store
